Linetec's
Spattercoat Finishes Simulate Traditional Masonry and More
Wausau, Wis. (August 2005) – Linetec, the nation’s
largest independent high-performance architectural metals finishing
company, also specializes in applying
spattercoat custom
finishes. Offering multi-colored, depth and texture, the spattercoat
process can mimic marble, stone, brick and other textures.
“Spattercoat is
achieved by first painting the under coat color over the entire
exposed surface. The material is then spattered with the remaining
color to give it a 3D effect,” explains Paul Bratz, Lintec’s paint
plant manager “The options of spattercoat paint seem endless. You
can select any colors imaginable, and multiple colors can be used
for the spattering. The spatters can be large or small, many or few,
thick or thin, speckled or swirled. It’s a completely custom
process.”
Linetec’s president
Rick Marshall agrees and notes, “In addition to simulating natural,
earthy and artificial surfaces, our spattercoat process offers
architects and building owners the opportunity to create a truly
unique, personalized building. We can also keep within your
prescribed color palette to maintain corporate identity standards or
match school colors.”
To achieve these one-of-a-kind spattercoat finishes,
Linetec utilizes Kynar 500®/Hylar
5000®
Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) resin based paints.
Dri-Design’s wall
panel products and
Metal-Era, Inc.’s
fascia and coping products
are among the latest products to
benefit from Linetec’s spattercoat finishing process.
Metal-Era’s website
showcases this special process by noting
its “Stone-Look Coping features the appearance of traditional
masonry stone caps found on many high-profile jobs today at a much
lower cost.”
Metal-Era provided its Stone-Look Coping to
Bridgetone Middle School in
Bridgeton,
NJ.
The spattercoat paint
was a near perfect match to the existing brick.
According to Thom Cain, Metal-Era’s Northeast Regional Technical
Manager,
the project architect needed to climb onto the building’s roof
because
from the ground
he was unable to distinguish that the old stone coping had been
replaced
with
the new
stone-look
metal
coping.
