Linetec’s
“Green” Finishes Enhance
Earth-Friendly, Energy-Saving Polywood Shutters
Wausau,
Wis. (January 2006) – Linetec, the nation’s largest independent
high-performance architectural metals finishing company, provides
Polywood Shutters an architectural grade baked-on paint finish.
These coatings and Linetec’s environmental practices also contribute
to architects’ sustainable building considerations and to projects
seeking the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® certification.
“Not only do people want earth-friendly and energy efficient
projects, but they are demanding them like never before,” says Nate
Timms, architect and project manager at IBI Group in Salt Lake City.
“Clients are really leading the charge when it comes to green design
and sustainability in design and architects are trying to stay one
step ahead by finding new products and concepts to work into our
projects. It’s a delicate balance between finding the right product
and creating a project that meets the industry standard of
sustainability.”
Windows can be one of the best places to save energy. One such
product is from Sunburst Shutters, the nation’s largest retailer of
interior shutters. The company’s top selling product is The Polywood
Shutter®, an interior plantation shutter used by both commercial and
residential designers. Polywood, an engineered wood substitute, has
the appearance of wood without the problems commonly associated with
wood such as cracking, warping, splitting or fading.
Some “green” products are manufactured in a way that protects the
environment from pollution and waste, while others conserve energy
and save valuable resources: Polywood shutters are both. “In making
a wood shutter, more than 50 percent of a tree is wasted before it
even gets to your window,” explains Dix Jarman, CEO of Sunburst
Shutters. “The Polywood shutter is made from a recyclable synthetic
material and a by-product of natural gas – not a petroleum-based
product – making it far more earth-friendly than other shutters.”
Third-party thermal conductivity research comparing the energy
efficiency of Polywood shutters to that of wood shutters and
aluminum mini-blinds found that Polywood shutters are 70 percent
more energy efficient than wood shutters and 1,600 percent more
energy efficient than aluminum mini-blinds.
Boston resident David Mintz installed Sunburst’s Polywood shutters
throughout his entire house and has since witnessed a significant
drop in his heating and cooling bills. “Bottom line, Polywood
shutters have been an amazing investment for our home,” said Mintz.
“We have had them for the past two winters, and we spent
approximately 20 percent less on heating bills each year. Plus they
are a beautiful addition to every room of the house – we even
installed them on our basement windows.”
Available for any shape window, Polywood Shutters are offered with
either smooth or textured louvers and finished by Linetec in three
standard colors – white, off-white and snow white – or custom
colors. To request samples and more information about Linetec’s
