Exposed Surface / Exposure - Painting
Architectural
Linetec defines an exposed surface/exposure as:
-
The surface area indicated on a material shape that requires finish
coverage, paint or anodize
-
Typically a surface area, which when assembled into doors,
windows, or other assemblies, is either viewable, or is in direct
contact to environmental weathering.
Significance of exposed surface/exposure indications:
o
Sales Order pricing, with few exceptions, is based on the total
painted square footage.
o
Paint quantity requirements are based on the total painted square
footage determined by Linetec.
o
Whenever possible, rack marks are kept to a minimum on exposed
surfaces.
o
Rework and double-runs can be minimized when accurate exposures are
provided, thus minimizing the impact on lead times.
Square Footage
Square footage, in most cases, is calculated based on a shapes
indicated exposed surfaces.
Calculation of Exposure
Painted exposure, per lineal foot, is calculated using the exposed
surfaces indicated on the shape.
Inches of exposed surface area are summed, the sum then converted into
square feet by dividing by twelve (12).
-
Exposed surface calculation may vary depending on the type of
exposure, such as a single adjacent exposure on one profile, or
multiple non-adjacent exposures on one profile.
-
Exposed surface calculation may vary depending on the material
profile or type.
-
Exposure calculations are subject to established minimums.
Calculation of Square Footage (per piece)
Square footage is calculated by multiplying the exposure by the total
lineal footage of the profile.
·
Square footage calculation may vary depending on the material profile
or type.
PRIMARY EXPOSURE
-
Exposed exterior and interior surfaces that must
withstand the effects of the environment and normal use/wear
-
Primary surfaces must comply with all applicable AAMA
specifications relative to dry film thickness, etc.
SECONDARY EXPOSURE
-
Semi-exposed areas requiring paint coverage, but which are not
exposed to the direct effects of the environment or use/wear. This
includes recessed channels or tracks.
-
Semi-exposed areas requiring paint coverage, which does not have to
be in compliance with AAMA specifications relative to dry film
thickness, etc.
-
Further criteria which Linetec applies to secondary exposed surfaces
-
Minor blemishes, runs, bubbles, etc, may be present, and will not
be rejected or touched up.
-
Rack marks may be evident and will not be touched up.
MISCELLANEOUS
-
Both Primary & Secondary exposed surfaces are subject to the Faraday
Cage Effect.
-
Material requiring
100% paint coverage will have rack marks. Contact our quoting
department or your Inside Sales Representative to discuss racking
options.
-
Exposed surfaces that contain channels, recesses, or cavities may be
subject to the
