EPOXIES.
Epoxies can
offer excellent functionality corrosion-protection, toughness,
flexibility but are limited to interior applications. Generally
the best powder for chemical resistance. However, generally the
worst powder for exterior applications, as epoxies will quickly
weather within a few months (chalk and/or fade).
TCI 7000
Tiger Drylac Series 69
POLYESTER URETHANES. Urethanes offer a basic level of
exterior weatherability, lasting 1 to 5 years before significant
chalk and/or fade. Urethanes also tend to be smoother, exhibiting
less orange-peel than other types of powders. Urethanes can only
be applied at a relatively thin coating thickness due to outgassing
and other issues.
TCI 8000
Tiger Drylac Series 44
TGIC POLYESTERS. TGIC polyesters provide a better level of
exterior durability, and can be applied at a thicker coating level
as needed. Orangepeel appearance can often be significant however.
TCI 9000
Tiger Drylac Series 28,
Tiger Drylac Series 39, and
Tiger Drylac Series 49
FLOUROPOLYMERS (PVDF, KYNAR). Excellent exterior
weatherability. Orangepeel appearance may be significant. Cost is
typically considerably higher than other powders. Application cost
may also be higher if primer coat or clear coat is required for
extended performance.
